You have probably all heard about this phenomenon called the Great Resignation. This is also known as the Big Quit and the Great Reshuffle and refers to the trend in which employees have voluntarily resigned from their jobs en masse. It began in early 2021 primarily in the United States but Has since gained traction in a number of European countries.

Reasons for this vary but are often due to overwhelm, staff shortages, and a growing gap between personal values and the job that workers no longer can live with. In professions like nursing, especially, there are signs that burnout is reaching unsustainable levels leading to mental health concerns.

The Importance of Self-Care and Living Your Values

Perhaps you can identify or are one of those who have participated in the great resignation. Whether you have or not, there are a couple of essentials needed to navigate life today. The first is a good self-care routine which includes physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual practices. I’ve shared extensively about this in Life IQ Living. You can access the many complimentary resources, teachings, etc. here.

The second is knowing and living your values. Everyone is different so it’s important for you to understand who you are in order to be sure that you are living according to your value system versus the expectations and values of others.

Research shows that people who are resilient and most fulfilled are those who understand themselves, including their needs and values, and are aware of the demands in their life. Based on this awareness they create strategies to be proactive and address areas of concern.

Here is an assessment by Cheryl Weir to help you get clarity on your needs and values. After you’ve taken the assessment feel free to reach out for a complimentary 15-minute call and we can discuss how you can integrate the awareness into your life.
