Setting a Strong Foundation for Hope and Stability

  • In order to navigate life successfully each of us must have a strong foundation by tending to self-care – body, mind and spirit.
  • For those of us who focus mostly on showing up, and what I do when I show up, but not so much on how I show up.
  • This process is incredibly personal. In other words, guidelines, ideas, examples, etc. will be shared but each of us must actively engage Life IQ Living and learn what works and what doesn’t for us.
  • Intentionality is a key to Life IQ Living.

“All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.  So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.” 1 Cor. 9:25-26 (NLT)

Life As A River

  • We must learn to live the rhythms of life – life as a river with differing geography along the way affecting the water flow – rapids, water fall, tranquil, eddie, swamp, etc.
  • We may not be able to change the situation or circumstances we find ourselves in. We can only be where we are on the river/path of life. But it’s how we show up at this time and this place on the river/path of life which will impact how fully we live each experience of life.

Where Does Joy Come From

  • “You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. “  Psalms 4:7 (NLT)
  • Inward joy comes from knowing and trusting God whereas happiness comes as a result of pleasant circumstances. Inward joy is steady, as long as we trust God, happiness is unpredictable since our circumstances always change. Inward joy defeats discouragement, happiness covers it up. Inward joy is enduring, happiness is temporary.

Benefits of Life IQ Living

  • Life IQ Living will guard me from addictive behaviors to bring the joy, peace, happiness and fulfillment I am looking for from life. These are not found from my circumstances but in intentional living, starting with my relationship with God.

Testimony of John:

“I can find myself striving as I live life. I want to control situations, how people show up, the outcome. I want comfortable not the discomfort. Life is messy and I have a choice. To rest in God or to strive in trying to control. If I rest, I have joy and peace. If I try to control, I feel anxious. It’s a daily decision. I must choose to rest in the Lord each day. Moment by moment. I can’t live tomorrow, or next week. I can only live one day at a time and receive the grace of God for this day.”

  • To navigate the river of life we will need to adapt, grow and respond with intentionality. If we live on auto-pilot we will do the same things we have always done and not move beyond our present state. Even practices that once worked may need revisiting (what got you here won’t get you there) if they aren’t working.
